Awakening "Short Form" Feedback

Here's the place for you to provide feedback on the short form edits of The Awakening!

You can find the latest versions at https://vimeo.com/agentpurple. As you need to sign in there to provide feedback, you can provide any comments or queries here instead!

So what have I done with The Awakening? After working on the first edits of Five Doctors I wanted to turn my attention to something which should be a little easier. The Awakening was only a 2 part story so we were starting out from a total of around 50 minutes of material. As a result my main focus was to try and make the one episode pacier and as a result have ended up producing something which comes in at just over 40 minutes.

Much of the editing was led by removing some lingering shots as well as splicing some of the scenes to keep the action flowing. It's not the best story on the planet but to be fair I did find myself developing some affection for it as I went along ... albeit with some pretty rubbish characters!! I will also note that as I got to the end the last 10 minutes are pretty good and pacey so did not see a lot of editing!

Please note that I have simply edited the material and have not re-mixed the music soundtrack or played around with special effects.

All feedback very welcome but please do be constructive :)

Five Doctors "Short Form" Feedback

Would welcome any feedback on the short form edits of Five Doctors, so here's the place to do it! You can find the latest versions at https://vimeo.com/agentpurple

I have also added a full 1hr version which you are probably better to download rather than trying to stream.

As you need to sign in there to provide feedback I'd be very grateful if you can provide any comments here instead!

As mentioned previously the purpose of this edit is to try to recreate this classic serial as a one hour special. Also please note that I have simply edited the material and have not re-mixed the music soundtrack or played around with special effects.

A few people have asked me to provide some information on what I have done with the edit, however I'd rather ask you to view this version without my summary bringing to your attention what I have removed. What I will say is that top priority in my mind was that the story flowed and made sense. When you take that view, some well loved scenes are bound to be sacrificed I'm afraid!

All feedback very welcome but please do be constructive :)

Cheers

Adam

Short Form Edits Update

Ok, so as the edit of Five Doctors seems to be going down well and getting a good response, I thought it a good idea to give a quick update on the "Short Form" intended structure.
  • A classic story of 4 parts or less should convert to one 45 minute story
  • Special anniversary stories will be between 45 minutes and one hour
  • Anything longer than 4 parts will either be taken to within the hour or converted into two 45 minute episodes
Each Short Form edit will be uploaded in 15 minute parts. Once a final edit has been completed I will also upload a full run final HD version.

I will just note that I am a mere amateur at doing this so the initial edits are without splicing soundtracks ... apologies if this makes the edits at all ropey! ;) In the future I hope to develop my expertise by working on soundtracks and even special effects ... but that's a long time off and only time permitting! :)

Thanks for looking!

Five Doctors - the whole thing inside an hour?

What's all this then?? Basically what we are trying to do is to create a "short form" version of this classic story by removing padding, tightening up the pace, and ultimately creating a version of the story that might be more accessible to a modern audience. By no means are we wishing to detract from the original but we hope that this edit maintains the critical story-line and makes for an interesting take on this classic story!

In terms of the material, we have taken the most recent special edition which was nearly 120 minutes in length compared to the original 90 minute special. We would believe that one 2hr edition like this could be reduced to 1 hour and a four part serial could be edited to 45 minutes.

As fans we have prioritised the story narrative over all else, and as a result some classic "nice to have" scenes have been cut (much to our inner fan outrage!) but we hope the end result makes for interesting viewing. We hope to upload the hour long story in 5 parts.

I will just note that this is simply a fan edit of The Five Doctors for non profit making exploratory purposes so I do of course acknowledge and respect all copyrights. Having had little experience of video editing please forgive if it's a little rough round the edges! It has been uploaded in a reasonable quality format for ease of viewing.

Feedback welcome ... but do remember our intention is to investigate the possibility rather than create a polished gem that is perfect in every way!! ;)
